Human Resources Director

The Orleans Public Defenders Office (OPD) is seeking a Human Resources Director.

JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer, the HR Director will oversee all human resources operations including, but not limited to compensation, benefit administration, paid time off, recruitment, new hire onboarding and training, management and staff training, record keeping, and personnel policy development and administration.

The HR Director will work with OPD’s Leadership Team in coordinating hiring, salary determinations and adjustments, and staff terminations. The HR Director will maintain all personnel records, ensuring all employment documents are current and safeguarded. The HR Director will ensure compliance with employment laws, government agencies and company policies and procedures.


Experienced Staff Attorney

The Orleans Public Defenders Office (OPD) is seeking applicants for an Experienced Staff Attorney. 

Job Summary:  

The primary role of the Staff Attorney is to zealously represent their clients in criminal proceedings, including arraignment, pretrial hearings, plea negotiations, trial and sentencing. The Staff Attorney participates in regular trainings and case rounds to continually improve her level of practice and representation. Also, the Staff Attorney assists and supports colleagues with court coverage and other tasks as needs arise. The Staff Attorney works closely in a team with an investigator, client advocate, social worker, and administrative staff to render effective legal assistance to each client. The Staff Attorney is responsible for developing and maintaining an effective attorney-client relationship, and is closely supervised by a Trial Division Supervisor.
