The Orleans Public Defenders Office (OPD) is seeking a Supervising Attorney.
The mission of the Orleans Public Defenders Office is to provide each eligible client with client-centered legal representation of the highest quality – zealous, conscientious, caring, professional, ethical and skilled – whether in criminal, juvenile or municipal/traffic court.
The Supervising Attorney will be a team player willing to assist in administrative and managerial responsibilities while carrying a reduced caseload and supervising a team of attorneys.
Additionally, the Supervising Attorney will conduct regular courtroom observations of attorneys, in hearings and in trials; observe interactions between attorneys and clients; provide feedback and written evaluations; second-chair as necessary and assist attorneys in all phases of trial preparation; stand in for section coverage or First Appearance emergencies; coordinate with, and meet regularly with team investigators; participate in the retention of attorneys; and be on call to address issues that may arise in court. Supervising Attorneys serve a one-year term with the opportunity to reapply when that term expires.
